I though it would be a great Idea to share this precious email so that you would also know the reality, if this email reveals the truth.

The email reads,

"Dear H.E. Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom

It is my duty as a Maldivian to inform you that our 100% Islamic Nation is getting flooded with food products that contain pork.

As you may already know, Gelatine(also known as E441) is used in many food products as a preservative. On a commercial scale, gelatine is made from by-products of the meat and leather industry, mainly pork skins, pork and cattle bones, or split cattle hides.

I recently purchased HARIBO Gummy bears from EuroStore on Chaandhanee Magu. It contained Gelatine so I thought of checking what type of Gelatine they use online. According to their website:

"During the manufacture of HARIBO products, HARIBO uses gelatine as a binding ingredient in their recipes. For many years in countries throughout Europe we have been using exclusively quality-tested and fresh pork gelatine from certified suppliers (IS0 9000) who abide by their own set of quality regulations (HACCP)"

(source: http://www.haribo.com/planet/uk/info/frameset.php )

It is not just with EuroStore products that I have found Gelatine in Male', there are many other products as well. I am sure that neither your Excellency nor Eurostore or any other importer knew that they were selling our children and brothers and sisters products that contained Pork Gelatine. But now since I have raised this issue, I hope that your excellency will speedily inform the relevant bodies within your government to ban the import and sale of pork Gelatine based products to our society. I also hope that you will make aware to all importers of food products to double check the products they are importing to make sure they are Halaal and also set up a special team to check whether the products sold to the Maldivian society are not only Pork free but also Halaal.

Thanking you

A concerned Muslim Citizen of Maldives"

The article was later (18 May 07) published on Minivan News Website.

The concerned citizen sounds like an ignorant extremist. It is not the bi-products of pork that is haram. it is the 'meat of swine' that is haram in your religion. Check your books written by gods, not by mullas. Besides there are worse things than a bi-product of pork in the food you consume, which was not invented by the time when god wrote his last books.

To "aobymous"

It might sound ignorant for a non-muslim...Besides you sound more ignorant when you say books written by gods? There is no gods in Islam...Plus the books were not written by gods, as other religions believe..Islam was revealed to prophet Mohammed (pbup). So before you say ignorat to someone be not ignorant yourself...Plus there is no extremism in Islam..Thats something created by Western media..The better you adhere to Islamic priciples the better Muslim you are...But in your eyes he might be the worst Mullah...

I hope this helps...

Dear Hassan,

Here you have missed the essential point the 1st anonymous was making. Extremists looks for unnecessary details rejecting the overall idea. It would be great if you could find any order from the book of god, which prohibits the use of pork by-products.

Besides it is fine to say "books written by gods" when referring to the set of books extremists believe in, most of which are from different kind of Hadhees collectors, who they regard more authentic than the word of god itself.

In this manner, the whole English language is evil as it is created by the westerners. So please answer to this Arabic.

you maldivian morons,
There are more important things than trying to enforce a ban on pork products.
islamic fundamentalist are controlling you idiots. wake up to the chemical poison in your food. Monitoring that is more important than enforcing some 7th century hadees

Second "anonymous"

Of caz you cannot find that pork by-products are in the Quran, if you are refering to it as the Book of God...But brother, whoever you are you better read the whole book...It says obey Allah and the Messenger Mohammed...So in that regard it is narated in Authentic Hadhith that consumption of anymount of anything which is haram is haram...So there is no point in talking abot the issue..Besides, why dont you have guts to present you name with full identity? If you belive you are talking about the truth dont be anonymous...I hope this helps.

To abulbarakat,

It if not who you decide what is more important in Islam...Firtly it sounds that u dont belive in Hadith, so how on earth would you belive anything important for islam...Doesnt make any sense...Brother, you know a tiny bit of Islam which makes you say extremists to some ppl...But watch the shit on ya a** before you shout about others..I hope this helps..

This was a very important issue taken up but unfortunately it was completely ignored by the tyrannical regime. Even worse, it was even ignored by Adhaalath party.

Adhaalath argues its not just Pork Gelatine that must be banned but also Alcohol and Pork as well in the Maldives. Little does Adhaalath knows that Pork and Alcohol is sold only in the resorts and safari boats. These Haribo products are sold to our children and our local community, so there is a big difference.

Hassan, you are a great man to have posted this in your Blog. It is people like you who will work for a better Maldives.

Keep up the good work
